Local firefighter, police officer receive Volunteer of America awards

Jason Ashton, a city of Rochester firefighter, and Otto Harnischfeger, a Rochester police investigator, just received Community Citizenship awards from Volunteers of America Upstate New York. They were honored for their active support of and involvement with Camp HEROES, a summer camp program for youth in the city of Rochester staffed by local first responders who volunteer their time as camp counselors. Both Ashton and Harnischfeger have been involved since the first year of Camp HEROES in 2015. The event also recognized Joanne Chada with the Community Volunteer of the Year Award, UniLink with the Corporate Supporter of the Year Award and Penelope Pankow with the Maud Booth Award.
