Volunteers of America CEO to Throw Out First Pitch at Red Wings Game for Strike Out Poverty
Kim Brumber, President and CEO of Volunteers of America Upstate New York, will throw the first pitch at the Rochester Red Wings game on June 23rd to raise awareness for Strike Out Poverty, a campaign to raise funds for VOA’s programs in Rochester. Every time a Red Wings pitcher strikes out an opposing hitter, a donation is made to Volunteers of America Upstate New York by community sponsors.
The proceeds from Strike Out Poverty support VOA’s many programs including Camp HEROES which provides a summer camp experience for economically disadvantaged youth in Rochester, the Working Wardrobe which outfits participants with job interview training and attire, and VOA’s Family Shelter which has served more than 2,000 homeless families in its 10 years of operation.
Fans and supporters are encouraged to attend home games and cheer on the pitchers, while learning more about Volunteers of America. In addition to throwing out the first pitch, CEO Kim Brumber will discuss the work VOA does in the community and encourage people to get involved. Volunteers of America will also have the Working Wardrobe On Wheels van parked in front of Frontier Field so visitors to the park can donate gently used business attire to the program.
This year’s Strike Out Poverty campaign is sponsored by Wegman’s. Volunteers of America welcomes community members to help strike out poverty by making a donation to VOA. People can donate or find out more by going to https://www.voaupny.org/strikeoutpoverty.
