Summer Enrichment Virtual Programming
Because of the Coronavirus pandemic, most schools and daycare centers have been closed since March. However, the VOA Children’s Center remained operational, offering virtual programming to 280 impoverished preschoolers to prepare them for kindergarten while they were safe at home.
This summer, VOA’s Camp HEROES, like all other overnight summer camps, has been put on hold. But, the kids still need us.
Volunteers of America has developed a summer enrichment program that can be delivered virtually to help at-risk children. We will give each child a tablet so they can access the programming safely from home and participate in educational activities, physical fitness challenges, virtual field trips, hands-on activities, and read alongs. The structured and supportive program will be delivered by our Children’s Center teachers and will prevent summer learning loss. The program will be engaging and age specific, and it will address their academic and developmental needs so that they can be on track for success when school re-opens.
With your donation, you can make it possible for a child in our community to receive a tablet and participate in VOA’s virtual summer programming. This program is specifically for children who have been identified as at-risk and in need of continued support. The six-week program over the summer is designed to be engaging, entertaining, active and beneficial to their academic and developmental growth. You can be a hero for a child this summer by providing them with a strong educational foundation.
