Every time a Rochester Red Wings pitcher throws a strikeout to an opposing hitter, a donation is made to Volunteers of America. Fans and supporters, like you, are encouraged to attend games and cheer on the pitchers, all while learning how you can help our community through partnership with VOA. The program was highly successful in 2018, with a grand total of 609 home field strikeouts that raised $10,000!
All funds raised through the Strikeout Poverty Campaign directly support the many programs offered by Volunteers of America in Rochester including the following:
- VOA’s Children’s Center
- Camp Heroes and Summer Leap Learning Programs
- Guest House Emergency Family Shelter
- Transitional, Supportive and Permanent Housing for those at risk of homelessness
- Re-Entry Center, Step by Step and Alternatives to Incarceration programs
- Job Readiness and Workforce Development Programming
Join us for VOA Night at Frontier Field on July 14!
Watch Rob Stedman, VOA Vice President of Services for Children & Families, throw out the first pitch at the Rochester Red Wings game on Sunday, July 14th. Rob will also be discussing VOA programming in an interview with Josh Whetzel during the game. VOA staff will be outside the stadium all day collecting donations of new pillows and sleeping bags for the campers at Camp HEROES. We hope to see you there!
Are you involved in Little League in Rochester? We need your help!

Your teams participation will help Volunteers of America in their partnership with the Rochester Red Wings to give support to homeless families and people who are at-risk of homelessness in our community. Email email@example.com if you'd like to participate. We hope your team will consider partnering with us and the Rochester Red Wings to make a difference!
