Events

Each year we help more than 6,000 people in Upstate New York rise above the challenges of poverty with a safety net to help them start over. This would not be possible without the enthusiasm of our donors and partner organizations to raise awareness and celebrate the lives being changed in our communities. Throughout the year you will find events that offer opportunities to get involved and support those we serve. Below is a list of our main events throughout the year:

    I Remember Mama

For 30+ years, VOA has honored elderly mothers in our community who would otherwise be alone on Mother's Day at our I Remember Mama Breakfast. Because of the need to keep our senior ladies safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, our plans have changed for 2020-2023. Instead, we deliver special care packages on Mother’s Day to senior women so they can stay safely in their homes and know that the community is thinking of them on Mother’s Day.

    Strike Out Poverty

Every time a Rochester Red Wings pitcher threw a strikeout to an opposing hitter, a donation is made to Volunteers of America on behalf of Citizens. Use the hashtag #STRIKEOUTPOVERTY and spread the word online, and make sure to cheer on the Red Wings this season!

In addition to our annual events, VOA has hosted a number of others throughout the past few years (Art with Heart, Camp HEROES, Paper Craft & Crop, Operation Backpack, etc.) that have been put on hold due to the pandemic in order to keep all attendees, vendors and staff safe. We will provide updates on this page when information becomes available.
